Joy Ride Officers who followed a car zig-zagging down a Des Moines street before it crashed were surprised to find a 9-year-old girl at the wheel with a 7-year-old child riding shotgun. A 911 caller alerted police to a reckless driver a little before 8:30 a.m. Monday. Officers who spotted the car turned on their flashing lights while following it, but the curb-to-curb excursion didn't end until the minor crash. Police say neither of the children was hurt. Sgt. Paul Parizek (puh-REE'-zihk) says the children apparently were just out on a joy ride, and were heading nowhere in particular. Parizek says they won't be referred to juvenile authorities, telling The Des Moines Register "the punishment to fit the crime is probably going to be in the home." My Question is........................ DID YOU EVER GO OUT FOR A "JOY RIDE" PRIOR TO BEING OF LEGAL AGE TO DRIVE? OR HAVE YOUR LICENSE? YES NO My crack legal team assures me the statute of limitations has run out so I can confess... clearing my conscience. |

My parents kept the car keys in a dish beside the back door. Our driveway sloped out to the street. Our town was dead after 10pm.

Just slip the key into the ignition unlocking the steering wheel giving the car a little shove down and out coasting a ways from home.. then out and about to see the sites. ... then coming home turn off the ignition and coast back into the driveway.

I first started driving farm pickup trucks at around 8 yr of age, and was driving 3 ton grain trucks by 12. As I got more curious about night driving, I would "borrow" the car late at night when parents were sleeping and go for a spin. Little did I know at the time, but my parents were fully aware of every excursion, and told me about it many years later.
